Airline Baggage Interline Agreements

There is a directive that applies to all members of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to calculate the amount of free baggage on inter-airline flights according to the concept of the largest airline (MSC) to determine the rules applicable to the baggage of an interline route. When separate tickets are issued in separate PNR tickets, the customer`s baggage is checked in to the final destination of the American 001 ticket. The customer is responsible for the baggage fee on the second ticket when the baggage is re-checked by the oneworld airline. This may include exiting the secure area to claim the luggage and check it again. International flights may require customs clearance and re-examination of the other carrier to the final destination. The Interline Ticketing Agreement (ITA) refers to the list of airlines that have an existing ticketing agreement with other airlines. For participating airlines, this type of agreement can attract more passengers because it provides easy access to destinations that are not served by the original airline. Emirates recently signed an Interline agreement with Mexico`s Interjet, which allows passengers on their new flights in Mexico City to continue flying other destinations without having to re-examine themselves or their luggage. Don`t confuse ticketing interline agreements with codeshare or operator companies: here at Simple Flying, we often write about new agreements between airlines.

From code-sharing to joint ventures, to Interline agreements… There is a lot of cooperation between the institutions. But what exactly are Interline agreements, and how do they differ from other types of partnerships? For example, on a trip from Medellin to Caracas, the first international airline is the largest airline. This is one of the biggest headaches travellers sometimes face: even if Interline agreements exist and the airline, like Z. F. United, can let luggage pass on a separate ticket, baggage screening on separate tickets is left to the discretion of the check-in desk. I always recommend coming to the airport early to make sure you have a clear printed copy of your flight ticket, including the ticket number, and be polite and friendly with the agent. In all of these partnerships, the exact details will vary depending on the agreement reached. I hope this will provide a useful overview to demystify some of the partnership terminology, often used by airlines around the world. The downside of an Interline deal is that passengers cannot collect miles for the entire trip. On Emirates flight, for example, Skywards miles would only be collected on the Dubai-Mexico portion of the flight, not on the continuation of the journey. If your trip includes flights operated by other airlines, your checked baggage is considered “interline baggage.” I expected to see something like a big “NOPE!”, but instead, there is no mention of the luggage hole.
